Thompson Statement Opposing CRomnibus

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement in opposition to the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act (H.R. 83) also known as the CRomnibus. Congressman Thompson spoke on the House floor today to oppose the rule for consideration of the Cromnibus (H.R. 83).

This legislation is another gimmicky bill that provides piece-meal funding and undermines critical national security programs. Once again, the Republican House Leadership has given us a bill that, by design, seems to promote partisan division and appeal to a faction in its party that is blindly determined to punish the Department of Homeland Security for their grievances against the President. In previous Congresses, such an approach would be considered absurd, but in the current political climate, this approach is heralded by some as 'reasonable' when compared to far more ridiculous right-wing ideas. I will be opposing the bill as it now stands.
